Josh Garrett-Davis, a South Dakota native,is the Gamble Associate Curator of Western History, Popular Culture and Firearms at the Autry Museum of the American West in Los Angeles and a PhD candidate in U.S. history at Princeton University. His work includes the new book What Is a Western?,the memoir Ghost Dances, the anthology This Road Leads to Nowhere: Pierre Punk and the Emmy-winning documentary Tending the Wild, about Indigenous ecological knowledge in California. He lives with his wife and daughter in a small, sunny apartment full of books.
