Paul L. Hedren, an award-winning historian from Omaha, Nebraska, retired from the National Park Service in 2007 after nearly four decades as a park historian and superintendent in five states.  A native Minnesotan and lifelong student of the Old Army and Indian wars of the American West, he focuses his research and writing on the Great Sioux War of 1876-77, sometimes called the Black Hills War. His 12th and most recent book is Rosebud, June 17, 1876:  Prelude to the Little Big Horn.
