Bruce Roseland is the president of the South Dakota State Poetry Society and a fourth-generation cattleman in north central South Dakota. His formal education ended when he earned an MA in sociology from the University of North Dakota and decided to return to the land, a place that made sense to him in a world that frequently did not. He has published six volumes of poetry, most recently Cowman, and has won honors including a National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum Wrangler Award and a Will Rogers Medallion Award.
