Paul Higbee

Paul Higbee is a historian, author and retired educator, but may be best known as a South Dakota Magazine feature writer and columnist. His most recent book, The First Strike, explores the life and WWII heroics of Doolittle Raider Don Smith. A recipient of the 2000 South Dakota Author of the Year designation and the 2001 Governor’s Award for History, Higbee holds degrees from Black Hills State University and the University of Notre Dame. He and his wife, Janet, live in Spearfish.
