Jay D. Vogt of Pierre has been with the South Dakota State Historical Society since 1987 and now serves as its director and State Historic Preservation Officer. He is the regional chair for the American Association for State and Local History and the immediate past president of the National Conference of State Historic Preservation Officers. Originally from Mitchell, Vogt is a graduate of Augustana College in Sioux Falls. He and his wife, Elizabeth, have three sons.
