Allyson Hobbs is Associate Professor of American History, Director of African and African American Studies, and Kleinheinz Family University Fellow in Undergraduate Education at Stanford University. A contributing writer for NewYorker.com, she has received the Freedom Fighter Award from the Silicon Valley chapter of the NAACP and served on the jury for the Pulitzer Prize in History. Her award-winning first book, A Chosen Exile, examines the phenomenon of racial passing in the United States.
