Castlewood, South Dakota, native Chuck Raasch earned a journalism degree from South Dakota State University in 1976. He worked at the Huron Plainsman and the Sioux Falls Argus Leader before becoming one of five original cover story writers for USA TODAY, as well as a national correspondent and political columnist for Gannett. He is now Washington correspondent for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. His wife, Sandy Johnson, is President and CEO of the National Press Foundation.
