Paul Higbee is the author of South Dakota's Cowboy Governor, Tom Berry, about the colorful man who led the state through the worst of the Depression and Dust Bowl. His previous books have explored Bear Butte, Spearfish Canyon and Mount Rushmore's Hall of Records. A recipient of the Governor’s Award for History in 2001, Higbee writes Black Hills features and columns for South Dakota Magazine from his home base in Spearfish.
