Philip J. Deloria is the Carroll Smith-Rosenberg Collegiate Professor in the College of Literature, Science and the Arts at the University of Michigan, where he teaches courses ranging from environmental history to songwriting. His research focuses on the social, cultural and political histories of the relations between American Indians and the United States, resulting in books such as 1998’s Playing Indian, 2004’s Indians in Unexpected Places and 2017’s American Studies: A User’s Guide.
