The South Dakota Festival of Books brings readers and writers together for book discussions, autograph signings and more! If you're unfamiliar with the event, read our 2018 schedule below to get an idea of what to expect. Our 2019 schedule will be posted as information becomes available.

This workshop will focus on the building blocks that drive story forward, be that for fiction or nonfiction. With its hands-on approach, you'll get practical advice and exercises geared to writers of all levels.

The fate of a novel can depend on the first page. It must snap its fingers in agents’ and editors’ faces, shake them by the shoulders, and spark a fire so high that readers leap to the next page. In this workshop, we’ll look at your first page as agents and editors might.

We all want to write that book that readers won't put down, but how do we transform our ideas and characters into a riveting story? This workshop introduces you to the simple but revolutionary Plot Box method of plotting your book. Participants will leave with a Plot Box kit (detailed in event description) as well as a clear map for structuring their story, whether it is memoir or fiction.
