IN-PERSON PARTNER EVENT: (Workshop) - Game On: How to Use Roleplaying Games to Electrify Your Story
Joshilyn Jackson & Lydia Netzer lead this creative writing workshop that draws on improvisational theatre and role-playing games to create foundational material that can be crafted into poetry, essays, and fiction. By exploring techniques that collaborative story-based gamers and improv actors have long used to construct narrative, workshop attendees will learn to 1. Create a dynamic world that responds to character actions and decision trees. 2. Use foil characters to light up the motivations and thematic relevance of their main characters 3. Control storytelling pace to provide character growth arcs while keeping the action intense and immediate. 4. Round out a scene with elements of backstory and foreshadowing while maintaining a focus on the present action and boosting narrative drive.
