A donation to the South Dakota Humanities Council ensures not only the continuance of this event and funding to bring in authors and gives back to the community, but also could potentially let you leave the South Dakota Festival of Books with an awesome prize. Donation methods can at times be difficult to navigate, so SDHC has made it easy by implementing several ways of donating.

Firstly, envelopes will be by the door of all presentations venues that you can enclose your donation and drop it off at the SDHC booth in Exhibitor Hall. If your donation is $10 or more, you can indicate which contest you would like to enter on the envelope. You can also mail donations to the South Dakota Humanities Council office or also text the code word for your preferred contest to 41444 and pledge a donation there. There are three contests that you can enter—code words “Memorabilia,” “AuthorSkype” and “NameInPrint.” Donating is also made easy online or the “Donate Now” tab on the Mobile App.

These prizes for these contests are not Frisbees or promotional pens. Rather, several featured authors from the 2014 South Dakota Festival of Books have donated various prizes—a Skype date with the Book Doctors, your name in a Chris Browne cartoon, an original watercolor by Ashley Wolff, and more! These writers offer time or products in order to reward your support for the South Dakota Humanities Council. All of the winners will be announced at “Happy Hour” in the Starlite Room of the Holiday Inn at 5 pm. Saturday, Sept. 27.
