SDHC Welcomes Summer Intern

Hello from the Intern

Brooklyn Pratt.jpgGreetings! My name is Brooklyn Pratt, and I’m looking forward to spending the summer interning with the South Dakota Humanities Council.

I grew up in the flat plains of southern Wyoming and moved to Bruce, South Dakota two years ago. Moving to this area was one of the best decisions of my life. I am an English Education major at South Dakota State University, and I am enjoying every minute of my learning experience.

During fall semester, one of my English professors told me about the SDHC internship and encouraged me to apply. I am a strong believer that authors around the world have the power to influence people’s lives, so I grasped the opportunity to be part of an organization that celebrates literature.

Now that the nice weather has finally arrived, I enjoy going on adventures, fishing with my fiancé, taking our dogs on walks, practicing yoga by the lake, going to the theatre, and reading with a good cup of tea. My list of favorite books and authors continues to grow, but I’d have to say Francine Rivers will always be near the top. The Harry Potter series will always hold a special place in my heart because it’s important to use the power of imagination. J.K. Rowling has done a beautiful job inviting children, teens, and adults to get excited about reading.

Interning with the South Dakota Humanities Council is an amazing opportunity, and I am grateful to have this experience. I am looking forward to creating new memories and gaining knowledge in a field I will forever be passionate about.
