Sioux Falls Offers Festival Fans a Variety of Entertainment

Sioux Falls – a Bustling City!

By Chrissy Meyer, South Dakota Festival of Books volunteer

In addition to all of the activities that surround the South Dakota Festival of Books, there are also several other “can’t miss” attractions throughout the city that make Sioux Falls a terrific venue. During your downtime, be sure to:

Take a Nature Walk

One of the best ways to get your literary juices flowing is to spend a little time communing with nature. Sioux Falls has several beautiful walking paths to get your body – and creativity – moving.

The Downtown Sioux Falls River Greenway includes a bike path and walking trail along the Big Sioux River. The entire trail system stretches for nearly 20 miles around the city’s center, but if you’re looking for a quick walk, aim for the scenic section between Falls Park and Fawick Parks downtown.

To really get into the nature vibe, head to the Outdoor Campus in southern Sioux Falls. This free attraction features several miles of beautiful hiking trails in wooded and prairie settings.

Shop Downtown

Downtown Sioux Falls features several unique and eclectic locally-owned stores that are perfect for browsing and shopping during your downtime. Shops stretch along Phillips Avenue between 12th and 9th streets and in the 8th & Railroad Center on the Eastbank.

Satisfy Your Inner Child

Looking for a way to satisfy that inner child who loves go-karts and mini-golf? Spend some time at Thunder Road. This amusement park features a challenging 18-hole miniature golf course and some of the region’s fastest go-karts. An evening at the park is a great way to unwind.

Look at Lemurs

The Great Plains Zoo and Delbridge Museum is one of South Dakota’s most-visited attractions and features more than 1,000 animals from around the world, including several endangered species. The 45-acre park offers up-close views of animals often not found in larger zoos, including giraffes, tigers, rhinos and a menagerie of primates, including lemurs. The Zoo also includes the Delbridge Museum of Natural History, a one-in-the-world collection of 150 mounted animals.

Looking for other fun things to do? Check out the Sioux Falls Convention & Visitors Bureau for a complete listing of events, attractions and more.
