July 28 2010 West River History Conference Looks for Family Stories
The 2010 West River History Conference, to be held September 23 - 25 in Rapid City, is looking for people to submit their family stories to be entered into a competition for publication.

Paper topics are not limited to the conference theme. Any topic relating to the history of the region is welcome as the subject of a presentation.

Please submit your paper topic with a title, brief description, and biographical sketch of the presenter by August 15th in order to be included in the program. Include the presenter's name, address, phone number and e-mail address. Papers should be limited to twenty to twenty-five minutes in length. Presenters planning to use electronic media of any kind must include this information in the original query. Papers must be double-spaced and contain research documentation when available.

Presenters need to submit three copies of their papers or an electronic copy for the judges. Papers without appropriate documentation (footnotes or endnotes plus a bibliography) will not be considered for prizes.

The collected papers of the conference are published annually in a permanent bound volume available for purchase by schools, libraries, museums and other interested parties. Prizes for the best papers in adult and student categories will be awarded. The Bob Lee Award, named for the noted South Dakota historian and journalist, honors the best paper on frontier military history.
