Part of Democracy Initiative
As part of the 2018 "Democracy and the Informed Citizen" initiative, SDHC will host two Reflective Conversation Facilitation Training sessions aimed at preparing facilitators to conduct civil and enlightened dialogue about current events and topics involving information literacy.
Training is open to coordinators and experts involved in "Information Literacy" forums as part of the 2018 initiative. Co-hosting and promotion is offered by the South and North Dakota Humanities Council. A Community Innovation Grant funded by the Bush Foundation through the South Dakota Community Foundation was awarded to SDHC for this opportunity.
Travel stipends are available for those travelling more than 100 miles to attend the training. Training sessions are limited to 25 participants.
Sessions in Aberdeen and Brookings
Training sessions will be held on Wednesday, June 6 in Aberdeen and Thursday, June 7 in Brookings. Training will be provided by the Oregon Humanities Council, founders of the "Conversation Project."
"The Conversation Project brings Oregonians together to talk—across differences, beliefs, and backgrounds—about important issues and ideas," according to the Oregon Humanities.
It fits well with SDHC's 2018 initiative, a key reason for selecting Oregon Humanities staff to provide training in South Dakota.
