Bird and Sherwin - Authors Photos.jpg

Bird and Sherwin speak on their Pulitzer Prize-winning work American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer. Both are award-winning authors and historians, earning multiple accolades for ‘American Prometheus.’ Oppenheimer was lionized for his work in developing the atomic bomb, but later, when he publicly repudiated that work for moral reasons, he was attacked by both politicians and other scientists.

From the publisher’s description: J. Robert Oppenheimer is one of the iconic figures of the 20th century, a brilliant physicist who led the effort to build the atomic bomb for his country in a time of war, and who later found himself confronting the moral consequences of scientific progress. In this magisterial, acclaimed biography 25 years in the making, Kai Bird and Martin Sherwin capture Oppenheimer’s life and times, from his early career to his central role in the Cold War.
