At Home with the Humanities

At Home with the Humanities is a resource page for exploring the humanities from your living room.

As a statewide organization whose sole purpose is to provide humanities programming, the South Dakota Humanities Council often extols the value of self-examination and reflection, or "Exploring the Human Adventure." During these uncertain times, we find certainty, once again, in humanities-related activities such as reading, writing, discussing, studying.

From Our Blog

We will continue to provide ideas for book clubs, readers, writers and others who are looking to expand their minds and stay occupied during this period of quarantine. Below are two posts that should keep you busy for awhile.

Save the World By Reading

If you've ever wanted to help save the world, we've got good news: You can.

Happily, your task is easier than those undertaken by your valiant literary heroes. You do not have to pursue a sorcerer's stone or find a missing ring.

Go Virtual with Your Book Club

While book club meetings are typically held in person, a teleconference is a strong substitution — certainly much better than no book club meeting at all. Don't cancel your monthly gathering. If you are not in a book club, start one virtually right now, when conversing with each other is so important.

SDHC not only recommends virtual book clubs, but also provides resources to help make them happen.
