The South Dakota Humanities Council has created a new program called “I Learned to Read at…” in which our constituents share their first literary steps along with a donation in the amount of their choosing.
Though he won’t be sitting next to Fatback in the back seat of Grover’s beat-up old Buick as he tours South Dakota this summer, Kent Nerburn’s 2019 One Book Tour does bear similarities to the journey that led him to write “Neither Wolf nor Dog: On Forgotten Roads with an Indian Elder.”
Submissions are being accepted through Aug. 15 for the Veterans Story Contest, which is open to veterans or current service members of any branch of the United States military currently living in South Dakota.
The South Dakota State Historical Society Press has printed and delivered the 2019 Young Readers One Book, “Tatanka and Other Legends of the Lakota People,” to the SDHC office for statewide distribution.
