Day of Giving Virtual Open House at SDHC Office Dec. 1

Donate at SDHC Office, Receive Prizes & Refreshments, Participate Online

The third annual South Dakota Day of Giving Open House on Tuesday, Dec. 1 at the South Dakota Humanities Council is going virtual.

The all-day virtual party will celebrate philanthropy, humanities and holiday spirit during an especially difficult season where many are quarantined and may be unable to gather with their families for the holidays due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

"We appreciate the opportunity to participate in this statewide effort of philanthropy," said Ann Volin, SDHC Executive Director. “While we wish we could gather in person, we look forward to interacting virtually with our constituents as we did during the Virtual 2020 South Dakota Festival of Books.”

Drive-up donations at an outside drop box will also be accepted at the SDHC office (1215 Trail Ridge Road Suite A) from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.,  and donors will receive a packaged treat and free book, delivered with no contact.

More About Giving Tuesday

Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2020 is recognized nationally as Giving Tuesday, a philanthropy-oriented holiday created in 2012 in response to the consumerism in November and December since the advent of Black Friday.

South Dakota Day of Giving is a movement to support nonprofits in the state who "are making life just a little bit better for all who call South Dakota home," according to event organizer South Dakota Gives, which is coordinating the statewide #ForSouthDakota campaign.

South Dakota Day of Giving provides nonprofits a chance to highlight their work as donors across the state celebrate generosity by giving to their favorite organizations. Hundreds of South Dakota nonprofits are participating, and a group of local nonprofits have joined together as #BrookingsGives to encourage donations for Brookings County non-profits, including SDHC.

South Dakota's third statewide giving day kicks off at midnight on Giving Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2020, and continues until 11:59 p.m. that night.

Visit us and Make Your Own Memory

The South Dakota Humanities Council (SDHC), founded in 1972 in response to an act of Congress, is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit and the only cultural organization in the state whose sole mission is to deliver humanities programming to the people of South Dakota.

Our vision is to lead statewide advocacy for the humanities, working with other partners to foster literary and civic engagement.

Any donation you make will enable us to reach more readers, young and old. We hope you'll join us on Tuesday to help make memories for others and make your own memories as you help us celebrate this special day for South Dakota.
