One Book Selections Featured in Book-Club-to-Go Program

One of the most popular programs offered by the South Dakota Humanities Council over the years has been the Book Club to Go program (BC2G), and – by extension – the Lending Library associated with it. Book Club to Go is a packaged reading program for book clubs that have been organized by individuals, libraries, bookstores, museums, and other organizations. Any organization is eligible to apply for a BC2G program.

The Book Club to Go program is based on an initiative dating back to 2010, when 40 different titles were made available to interested book clubs through Reading Group Toolkits. Since that time, various titles have been discontinued and new titles have been added, resulting in the current Lending Library collection of over 70 different book titles available for loan. Highlighting the list of books available for loan are all of the books chosen annually as the One Book South Dakota – including the recent 2026 selection, A Biography of a Mountain: The Making and Meaning of Mount Rushmore by Matthew Davis – and the Young Readers One Book South Dakota selections.

Since 2003, SDHC’s One Book South Dakota program has encouraged people across the state to read and discuss the same book throughout the year. Groups can request the current One Book South Dakota on loan and host their own discussions. The Young Readers One Book South Dakota selection – distributed annually to every third-grade student in South Dakota – is also a part of the SDHC Lending Library, providing an invaluable resource to libraries and other organizations who may wish to share the book with a group of younger readers.
