Spring AuthorFest Features Page-to-Screen Writers

March 18, 2023

Can’t wait six more months for the next South Dakota Festival of Books? Get your fix with a virtual discussion among bestselling authors whose work has leapt from page to screen! The South Dakota Festival of Books is partnering with Simon & Schuster to present the Spring 2023 AuthorFest event, featuring Rebecca Serle and Laura Dave in conversation with Jessica Knoll, starting at 7 p.m. CT/6 p.m. MT on Wednesday, March 22.

Both Serle and Dave are masters of writing complicated families, telling love stories, and creating characters that have enchanted people across media. In their conversation, they’ll discuss the challenges of adapting books for TV and film, as well as the sources of inspiration they find in the world around them.

Partnering with Simon & Schuster provides one more way for the Festival to bring well-known writers to the state’s readers, said Jennifer Widman, South Dakota Center for the Book Director. “AuthorFest always features top-tier authors with brand-new books, and they can’t possibly visit every community on their in-person tours,” she said. “This is a wonderful opportunity for our Festival fans to hear from them and, in this case, to get the inside scoop on adapting books into streaming series.”

Since the inaugural Fall 2021 AuthorFest event (Bob Woodward and Robert Costa discussing their book Peril), Simon & Schuster has partnered with book festivals from Boston to Berkeley to Honolulu, entertaining and connecting thousands of book lovers across the country. The South Dakota Festival of Books has been part of all four events.

Jonathan Karp, Simon & Schuster President and CEO, is excited to bring authors to a wider audience through these partnerships. “Our first three AuthorFest events have been scintillating conversations, viewed by thousands, and we expect our Spring 2023 event with Rebecca Serle and Laura Dave to be just as entertaining,” he said. “Both of these writers have brought complex characters to life through their books and page-to-screen adaptations.”
