Oscar Micheaux: From Homesteading to Hollywood
Oscar Micheaux, an African American homesteader from Gregory County, SD, became known as the first Black film maker. Many of his experiences on the prairie influenced the subjects of his seven novels and forty-three movies. His work juxtaposes challenges of the homesteader and the experiences of being Black in America. A bibliography, clips of Micheaux’s movies, and a display of original books are part of the presentation.
