Mount Rushmore: Past and Future
Using archival photographs, documents, and a six-foot drill bit, Mount Rushmore author Jean Patrick presents how and why Mount Rushmore was carved and the complexities surrounding the monument. The presentation is appropriate for all ages, but works especially well with the fourth-grade South Dakota history unit.

Women, Sports, and History (Chautauqua)
Author Jean Patrick introduces audiences to the amazing female athletes of her nonfiction books The Girl Who Struck Out Babe Ruth and Long-armed Ludy and the First Women’s Olympics. Patrick also presents the role of women’s sports in education and provides samples of her research and writing process. Upon request, Jean can dramatize the true story of Jackie Mitchell, the seventeen-year-old southpaw who struck out Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig.

The Writer’s Life
Patrick talks about her life as an author and provides a behind-the-scenes look at the development of her books. She also leads fun writing activities for your group and provides tips for writing for publication.

Memoir Writing
Many people would love to write their memoirs but have no idea how to get started. Jean provides ideas and exercises for taking the first steps for putting memories on paper.

Jean also enjoys leading book discussions for SDHC and has been doing so since 2008. She is an experienced virtual discussion leader as well.
