The Writer’s Life
In this presentation, Patrick (author of twelve nonfiction books for young people and adults) gives your group a behind-the-scenes look at her life as an author, including her research and writing process for one or more of her books. Upon request, Jean will also lead a writer’s workshop for your group. All ages.
The Girl Who Struck Out Babe Ruth (Chautauqua)
From her book, Patrick dramatizes the true story of Jackie Mitchell, the 17-year-old southpaw who struck out Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig in 1931. Next, Jean uses a hands-on approach to reveal the story of her research and writing process. Upon request, Jean will also introduce audiences to heroines of her other nonfiction books, including “Long-armed Ludy and the First Women’s Olympics.” All ages.
Mount Rushmore: Past, Present, Future
Using archival photographs and old tools, Patrick shows how and why Mount Rushmore was carved and introduces the complexities of the monument. All ages. Great for 4th SD history unit.
Memoir Writing
Many people would love to write their memoirs but have no idea how to get started. Patrick shows a variety of memoir structures and helps participants write and complete at least one scene from their lives.
