Thank You for Making an Impact!

June 28, 2025

All of us at the South Dakota Humanities Council want to thank you for making Impact South Dakota, our June 18 benefit event for the 2025 South Dakota Festival of Books, a success! Due to your support, we raised $4,567 toward our $50,000 gift match goal, a 9% increase toward our target!

The event featured book giveaways, live music, delicious food from Dada Gastropub, and a reading by South Dakota Poet Laureate Bruce Roseland. It also brought humanities supporters together for conversation and camaraderie, said SDHC Executive Director Christina Oey.

“The evening was a perfect example of the importance of making meaningful human connections,” she said. “We’re deeply grateful to everyone who joined us, whether in person, through donations, or with kind words of encouragement. Your support does not go unnoticed!”

Proceeds from the event, as well as from a mailing to supporters around the state and country, will be matched up to $50,000 by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. This is part of Mellon’s emergency funding commitment to the Federation of State Humanities Councils in response to devastating federal cuts.
