Rebecca Clarren

Rebecca Clarren has written about the American West for more than 25 years and received the 2021 Whiting Nonfiction Grant for her work on The Cost of Free Land, the 2025 One Book South Dakota. Her journalism, for which she has won the Hillman Prize, an Alicia Patterson Foundation Fellowship, and 10 grants from the Fund for Investigative Journalism, has appeared in Mother Jones, High Country News, The Nation, and Indian Country Today.
