Inspirational Women’s Speaker Series Slated for Sioux Falls

In celebration of the Washington Pavilion’s 25th Anniversary, the Belbas Theater will host a panel discussion of local women across multiple generations on Tuesday, February 27, at 6:30 p.m. CT. Sponsored by SDHC, the event is part of the “Women: A Century of Change” Speaker Series featuring professionals sharing their unique life experiences.

Attendees should anticipate a lively, inspiring conversation that unites people and provides insights into personal growth and learning from the collective wisdom of different age groups. Augustana University President Stephanie Herseth Sandlin will deliver the opening remarks and will be joined by the following women for the panel discussion:

The event is being held in conjunction with the traveling exhibition “Women: A Century of Change,” which features well-known National Geographic images and will be on display in the Visual Arts Center from February 16-June 30, 2024. 

Attendees of the panel discussion may tour the exhibition beginning at 5:30 p.m. The exhibition, which contains more than 100 images from renowned photographers such as Jodi Cobb, Lynsey Addario, Ami Vitale, Erika Larsen, and Steve McCurry, highlights women in more than 30 countries from the turn of the 20th century to the present. These powerful images are organized into six themes including joy, beauty, love, wisdom, strength, and hope. Complimentary copies of the exhibition’s companion hard copy book will be distributed to the first 125 registered attendees for the discussion series.

Brett Cooper, Senior Development Associate and Volunteer Coordinator at Washington Pavilion, spoke about the impact that organizers hope the event will generate.

“The goal of the event is to encourage women to support each other on a multigenerational level. The Pavilion hopes that audience members will be inspired after learning about each panelist’s experiences and how their respective challenges and triumphs over multiple generations illustrate how the influence and power of women can be seen from any corner of the world, including South Dakota.”
