“Together, we can continue to make a lasting impact.” – Ann Volin
December 16, 2023
As we stand on the cusp of a new year, we’re inspired by the opportunities that lie ahead. Past challenges have underscored the importance of fostering connection, understanding, and empathy within our communities. Through our supporters, we are empowered to navigate challenges and transform them into opportunities for positive change.
Contributions made to the South Dakota Humanities Council play a pivotal role in shaping the cultural landscape of our state, and we invite you to join us in unlocking a new chapter together. Through the meaningful impact of an end-of-year gift to the SDHC, contributions directly support programs. These are initiatives that promote literacy, cultural appreciation, and lifelong learning throughout our state.
Your generosity can help us to:
- Foster a love for learning: Your gift enables us to develop and implement educational initiatives that inspire a lifelong love for literature, history, and the humanities. For ten years, we’ve been building up the Young Readers program, and this year, we achieved a remarkable milestone: thanks to our supporters, we delivered over 14,000 “Tale of Despereaux” books to every third grader across South Dakota.
- Strengthen community bonds: Through our programs, we aim to create spaces where people can come together to engage in meaningful conversations, fostering a sense of connection and understanding. Neighbors got the chance to discuss the history and current trends in rural America when the Smithsonian “Crossroads” exhibit traveled to communities across South Dakota.
- Expand our reach: With your support, we can bring humanities programs to more communities, reaching individuals who may not have had access to these enriching experiences otherwise. One group we’re now reaching is seniors interested in writing their life stories and obituaries. This was made possible in 2023 through our Speaker’s Bureau grants.
