Oscar Micheaux: From Homesteading to Hollywood
Learn about Oscar Micheaux, an African American homesteader from Gregory County, SD, who became an author of seven novels and wrote, produced and at times acted in forty-three movies. The subjects and story lines of his writing and film making developed from his own experiences on the prairies of South Dakota. His work teaches about the challenges of the first farmers in Gregory County as well as the challenges of being black in America. A bibliography, clips of Micheaux’s movies, and a display of his original books are part of the presentation.
